Charter Security Suite™ Version 9 - E-mail Filtering

This tutorial will guide you through the e-mail filtering feature of the Charter Security
Suite™. Use the menu links below to navigate through the document.

Double-click on the Charter Security Suite™ Icon Charter Security Suite Icon in the Task Bar. This will launch the application.

Adjusting Spam Control

Click the Internet header to expand the menu and then click E-mail filtering.

By default, the "Spam and Phishing Filter Mode" is set at Medium. You can adjust this setting to Aggressive if your inbox is receiving a large amount of unsoliciated messages.

Please Note: The aggressive setting may send legitimate e-mails into the junk folder.

Reseting the E-mail Filtering Option

To reset the e-mail filtering option, click the Reset filters link.

This option restores the spam filtering rules to the default settings. Click OK to reset.

Outlook Integration

Step 4 of 7

If you use Microsoft® Outlook or Outlook Express, you can adjust the number of days spam is kept in the junk folder. To enable this feature, be sure there is a checkmark next to Clear the junk folders after: option. Adjust the number of days by using the up and down arrows.

Allowed E-mail Senders List

To ensure you receive all e-mail messages from a specific e-mail address or domain, you can add it to the "Allowed E-mail Senders" list. To do this, click on the Allow senders... link.

To add a single address, type the full e-mail address in the Address: field. To allow e-mail from an entire domain, enter a wildcard followed by the domain in the same address field. You may enter something meaningful (such as the owner of the e-mail address) in the optional Description: field. Click OK to continue.

The e-mail address or domain now shows up on the Allowed e-mail senders list. Repeat steps 5a - 5c above to enter additional e-mails or domains.

Blocked E-Mail Senders List

Step 6a of 7

Sometimes unwanted e-mail messages are not filtered. To send all unwanted messages from a specific e-mail address or domain, add it to the Blocked e-mail senders list. To do this, click on the Block senders... link.

Changing Protocols

If your e-mail client uses a port that is different from the standard port, you may update it by clicking on the Show Protocols link.

Enter the port number in the Port for POP3: field, then click OK.
